Ultracold quantum gases in optical lattices provide an ideal playground for the investigation of quantum many-body physics with an unprecedented degree of control over a wide range of parameters. Similar to solid state systems, the periodicity of the potential landscape gives rise to an energy band structure.
Experiments performed within the scope of this thesis aim for the systematic manipulation of the band structure for bosonic quantum gases in a variety of lattice geometries. The employed techniques of time-periodic driving and a rotation of the quantization axis pave the way for the study of highly exotic phenomena in yet uncharted physical regimes.
