Silicon-organic hybrid nanophotonics for high-efficiency THz emission

193 Seiten, Dissertation Technische Universität Hamburg (2020), Softcover, A5

Zusammenfassung / Abstract

In this thesis it is proposed to use the silicon-organic hybrid platform to realize nanophotonic sources of THz radiation. Exploiting nonlinear optical properties optical radiation is converted into THz radiation in integrated devices with microscopic dimensions. Two types of such THz sources are investigated. The first source uses a folded nonlinear waveguide design and enables continuous wave THz output emitted to free space with a power on the order of 10-100 microwatt. The second source is based on the excitation of THz plasmonic modes in graphene. We show how THz graphene plasmons can be excited efficiently on a chip using optical radiation.
