Nitrogen-vacancy center in diamond as sensor for Fluorescence Resonance Energy Transfer Scanning Near Field Optical Microscopy

144 Seiten, Dissertation Universität Stuttgart (2014), Hardcover, A5

Zusammenfassung / Abstract

The nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center is one of about 500 known optical defect centers in diamond and exhibits extraordinary properties. These properties make the NV center an ideal candidate as sensor for a variety of applications. Nanodiamonds smaller than 10 nm were investigated and used as optical and spin sensor for measuring the coherence time as well as fluorescence resonance energy transfer between the NV center and quencher molecules. Utilizing the optical properties of the NV center in combination with an AFM, the fluorescing nanodiamonds were used as sensors for a novel microscopy technique - scanning FRET microscopy - reaching a resolution far beyond the Abbe Limit.
