A Measurement-based Process for Assessing Grid Infrastructures

240 Seiten, Dissertation Technische Universität Kaiserslautern (2014), Hardcover, B5

Zusammenfassung / Abstract

Quality assessment of computational grids is a challenging task, specially for ordinary users with little technical knowledge and limited access to the infrastructures.

The Grid Quality Assessment Process (GQA) enables such users to assess the suitability of grid infrastructures as execution platforms for their applications, at an affordable cost.

The process is highly automated and relies on an experience base, which stores data accumulated from previous assessments and algorithms that encapsulate the ability of experts to characterize the environment, devise proper assessment criteria, perform measurements, and interpret their results.

Studies involving common types of grid application running on production infrastructures reveal that GQA leads to the selection of the infrastructures with the lowest rate of application requirements violations. They also show that the cost of the assessments can be more than 90% lower than if traditional approaches are employed.
