Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing Multiple-Input Multiple-Output Automotive Radar with Novel Signal Processing Algorithms

188 Seiten, Dissertation Universität Stuttgart (2018), Softcover, A5

Zusammenfassung / Abstract

This thesis aims to explore the perspectives of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) as a modulation scheme for high-performance, robust and adaptive automotive radar. To this end, three aspects of high-performance OFDM radar are particularly in focus: (i) novel, accurate and high resolution distance-velocity estimation algorithms for OFDM radar that are combined into a new signal processing architecture, (ii) multiplexing methods for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar based on multicarrier structure of OFDM waveforms for improved direction of arrival estimation, (iii) and novel interference mitigation approaches for increased interference robustness through cognitive, adaptive operation. A prototypical implementation of OFDM-MIMO radar is used to demonstrate the feasibility of OFDM for high-performance radar applications. Based on this radar prototype, the algorithms and radar concepts presented in this thesis are validated experimentally and their applicability for real world automotive radar implementations is confirmed.
