Zusammenfassung / Abstract

This work proposes a strategy to prevent protein adsorption by coating hydrogels on the surfaces. The approach is based on C, H-insertion crosslinking (CHic), which only requires C-H groups on the surface of substrates to perform the reaction via photo-activation. Challenging issue of all photo-activation reactions is the decreasing of light intensity throughout the film which makes it complicated to predict the required irradiation time for surface attachment. In this work, the model for percolation point prediction was calculated according to Lambert-Beer’s law and percolation theory. This model can be used to predict the suitable condition between film thickness and irradiation dose for successful surface attachment. The resulting surface-attached hydrogels exhibited strong protein repellency with long term stability according to size exclusion and entropic shielding.

The knowledge gained by this thesis indicates that CHic process by photoinduced reaction is a suitable strategy for the deposition of hydrogel layers on tissues in the presence of water. This study is not only limited for the specific application, but it also provides a better understanding in the fields, which can lead to wide range of applications.
