Oliver Marquardt
An Adaptive Communication Middleware of a Fault–tolerant and Integrated Avionics Platform

172 Seiten, Dissertation Universität Stuttgart (2019), Softcover, B5

Zusammenfassung / Abstract

Integrated avionics architectures are state of the art in avionics. Their key feature is the shared use of computing and communication resources by several integrated system functions. Thus, they provide cost and weight savings as well as enhanced computing and communication capabilities. But, the shared use of computing and communication resources requires severe configuration effort. Although state of the art configuration processes leverage model-based and tool-supported approaches, they remain time-consuming, labor-intensive and error-prone.

The here presented and evaluated approach of an Adaptive Avionics System of Integrated Systems (ASIS) aims to significantly reduce the overall configuration effort for initial configuration and subsequent in-service changes by introducing adaptive capabilities for integrated avionics architectures.

This ASIS is a distributed, redundant and integrated avionics platform with a modular hardware architecture and a service-oriented software architecture. It distinguishes from other avionic architectures the strict separation of system management and system functional concerns, the high level of abstraction towards the integrated system functions and the adaptive capabilities. Fundamental to achieve adaptivity are inherent mechanisms for the autonomous detection of ASIS changes as well as for the autonomous planning and execution of the necessary ASIS configuration.

The specific challenges of the communication middleware are the autonomous discovery of the entire backbone topology, the autonomous discovery of all communication demands and the auto-configuration of the entire communication within modules, networks and towards peripherals.
