In modern engineering, lightweight construction is used to design load-carrying systems with the smallest possible amount of material (e.g. automobile bodies, airplane carriages, space vehicles). Since load-carrying constructions are often safety-relevant, uncertain events shall not lead to undesirable failure.
This thesis deals with the task of finding stable trusses with minimal weight. The concept of robust optimization will be applied to consider uncertainty in the given parameters (e.g. loads).
Within Collaborative Research Center (CRC) 805, several projects aim to optimally integrate adaptive components into load-carrying structures. This results in a mixed-integer semidefinite optimization problem that needs appropriate solutions.
